Few months back I was struggling to do my first pullup... Damn..That sucks..So I undertook a major challenge to move towards 50 pullups in one go.. Yesterday I did 50 pullups in different sets. I did 10 in 1 set. I think its high time I put the journey into perspective.
I could do around 10 wide grip pushups..
Step 1:
I worked on my pushups first.I could do around 10 wide grip pushups..
But I couldn't do the pushups focusing on the triceps or the narrow grip pushups
So I started taking the 30 day challnge to do 100 pushups a day.
If you cant do the normal pushups.. Do the assisted ones first.
But eventually you need to the normal pushups with ease.
I did most of the pushups slowly. 4 seconds to reach the lowest position and 1 second to reach to the top. I didnt the time trial version(Maximum number of pushups in 1 min or so).
Slow pushups helped me build arm and back strength.
Step 2:
After working on the pushups I started doing negatives pullups.
I started by standing on the stool or bench. I hung on the bar for 1 second. And then slowly lowered myself. Initially I went thud down. Because I couldnt hang on the bar. I did 20 per day, every alternate day for 6 weeks. By the third week I saw I was lowering myself slowly than the first week.
Step 3:
To aid upper body strength I used to do the following exercises
Remember it took me 3- 4 months to achieve this.So persist and remember all movements should be slow. The muscle should be under tension for longer duration
